A 2010 snapshot

2000 AND STILL COUNTING!!

Did you catch your Year 9 student singing along to the 60s classic hit ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ the other day? Did your 15-year-old daughter suddenly announce her intention to climb Mt Kilimanjaro? Was your teenage son recently spotted sweeping the kitchen floor with a suspiciously dance-like motion? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then your child may be one of over 2000 students across Australia who have already attended a yLead Altitude Day in 2010.

Altitude Day

During May and June, Middle School students from the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney were inspired to look beyond ‘leadership as a badge’ and instead seek ways in which they can be leaders in their schools communities through their actions every day. Altitude Day, a series of 1-day conferences which encourage students to seek their potential, gives students uplifting messages about overcoming adversity and making a difference to their community. But it also gives practical information about how to set goals for the future, how to be someone who leads themselves and others, and what steps and attitudes you need to embrace in order to go from your ACTUAL to your POTENTIAL.

Ever tried writing WOW with your whole body? Rowena Szeszeran-McEvoy, one of our guest speakers and founder of The MAX College of Fitness Professionals, suggests you try it! “Rowie”, as she is fondly known, made an enormous impact on Queensland students with her messages about being ‘unique, different and memorable’, about surrounding themselves with positive people who will support them in their goals – and to be that person for other people – and about ridding the world of that debilitating condition known as “excusitis” (inflammation of the excuses) which holds people back from doing things they are passionate about.

Some teacher feedback from 2010 Altitude Days:

“Totally engaging. Without a doubt the best student conference I have ever been to in 15 years of teaching.”
- Education Support Teacher, Torrens Valley Christian School, SA

“Definitely worthy of an annual insertion into our school calendar.”
- Counsellor & Student Leadership Mentor, Gleeson College, SA

“Having now been to Altitude Day for the past two years, I have found the positive energy that flows from the speakers to be very valuable; this energy enthuses and motivates our young (future) leaders.”
- Year Level Coordinator, Browns Plains State High School, Qld

Altitude Days are held annually around Australia, so send us an email to register your interest for next year!
