Coaching at Mandela Primary

Athletics CarnivalMandela Primary School is located on the southern side of the Moshi township which lies in the shadow of Africa's highest peak, Kilimanjaro. There are approximately 700 students attending this school led by their Principal, our very special friend Bibianna Mmbaga. Each class has up to 60 students, crammed into a tiny, concrete room. There is no electricity, no running water and few teaching resources, but these circumstances do nothing to dampen the spirits of students and teachers. They are always smiling, always singing and always display an uncompromising passion for school...and their yTravel visitors!

In the time with Mandela Primary you will...

  • Be taught the basics of the Swahili language by the teachers of Mandela Primary
  • Live in their Tanzanian homes
  • Be taught Swahili Dance and Rhythms by Peter Mmbaga, the local Moshi choir master
  • Teach students some bushcraft, sporting skills or cooking lessons
  • Teach them about the region in which you live
  • Erect a fence or paint a class room

You will love the days with this school as much as the moment you stand on the Kilimanjaro summit.
