Leadershift

LeadershiftRecommended for Year 9 students

Year 9 students are plagued by self doubt, apathy, judgment and wanting to fit in. How do we then ask these students to rise up to the challenge of leading the middle school?

'Leadershift' looks at the individual. Leadership must begin with self. It is about shifting the way the students think and the way they see the world. It is about recognising how they interact with others and how they can better serve them. It is about doing things for others, not waiting for others to do it for them.

'Leadershift' will encourage your year 9s to step up from being the ‘horrors of the middle school’, to being capable and responsible young leaders that can truly make a difference in the world.

Key Outcomes | Students will…

Discover their core values and what they base their decisions on.

Learn the power of attitude and the impact it has upon success as an individual and on their peers.

Realise that as Middle School leaders it’s about DOING and SERVING others. It’s not all about them. 'Leadershift' is actually leading. They can DO something!

Recommended Processes

Take a Stand | Students will engage in discussion around core values and what is important to them. They will realise the power of basing their choices on a value system, rather than what their friends think. They will also recognise the diversity of values that exist amongst themselves and learn that not everybody thinks the same way.

Jenga Attitude | Playing the game of sabotage, students will learn that when you choose an attitude that seeks to bring others down, you sabotage your own results as well as the team. Attitude is a choice, and it defines our success? What attitude are you choosing every minute of every day?

The Apprentice | Realising that leadership is about serving others, students will research, plan and present a real initiative that will support a chosen cause. This will occur in project teams and each student will take on a specific role contributing to the whole.
