National Leaders' Conference
yLead’s National Leaders’ Conference (NLC) 2009 is over. The Amazing Race to make the world a better place concluded on Saturday 11th July with the Orange team taking out the title! A massive shout out to the Pink, Green and Blue teams for putting in an amazing effort! The energy and atmosphere that was created over the two days of NLC was simply electrifying!
Right from the get go with the dance “Love takes over” to the Lord Mayor of Melbourne opening up the conference to the introduction of the conference theme, ‘Together has power’ there was something special taking place in the room. The first afternoon took participants on a unique adventure utilising their creativity first in a session devised by Jenna Dwyer before unleashing their physical prowess in a breaking through barriers session with Tiffiny Hall. After a short break this was followed up by small groups trying to solve a problem with people wearing different personality hats with Brett Knowles. The end of the first day was capped off with the movie, ‘Pay it Forward.’ This unbelievable story summarised our first day of NLC, whilst at the same time unknowingly prepared everyone for Day 2.
The second day started off with an inspiring speech from Adrian Panozzo, CEO of Reclink Australia about servant leadership. This further motivated our amazing race participants to complete all four of the major challenges with even more passion and desire to making the world a better place. From the Op-shop challenge to busking at the steps of Flinders St Station right through to the RAK Attack Packs and polling random people in Bourke St mall – the race was something else entirely. The Amazing Race brought together people from different states, different backgrounds and different ages to help make a difference in this world and exceeded expectations!
If there is one thing we ask you to take away from NLC 2009 it is this. Allow every day you live for a little bit of love to take over and when that happens, do your best to pay it forward, because together…together has power.
yLead's National Leaders’ Conference (NLC) is a fantastic opportunity for past ASLC participants - and their friends - to come together to experience two crazy, action-packed and friend-filled days of fun!
The conference has a different theme each year, with this topic explored through high energy, high impact activities and group sessions. It is an opportunity for friendships to be formed across State lines as likeminded young people of ages from 16 to 26 gather from all over Australia.
I actually got home and found myself a bit emotional. The vast number of emotions generated throughout the conference as soon as your pulled away from the environment you realise what was actually achieved in 48hrs WOW, and what can be achieved with the right frame of mind and a determined group of people.
Thank you all once again for an unforgettable experience! Each and everyone of you are unique, have special qualities and all compliment each other so well with yLead!Lauren P | NLC Participant 2009
