Primary Power

Altitude Day

Altitude Day began as a middle school day for students in Year 9. However, due to many teachers seeking something at a Year 6 level, we have more recently adapted the day for upper primary students called Primary Power. So far we have two primary days planned for 2011:

Region Date Venue
Newcastle (Primary)
24 February
Newcastle Grammar School
Brisbane (Primary)
15 March
Brisbane Grammar School

Primary School Cluster Model

Alternatively, the 'cluster' model for Primary Power is something we are always interested in exploring further. Based on the success of our Mid Coast Community of Schools Cluster Day on the Gold Coast and the Redbank Plains Year 6 Leadership Day, we are looking for interested school communities to hold their own Primary Power Day!

In October 2009, six local primary schools came together at Miami State High School for a fun and interactive day that increased the connection between an existing cluster of schools. In December 2009, Redbank Plains State High School played host to four local primary schools for a similar day. Not only did the Year 6 students get a great introduction to leadership and what it means to them, they also experienced the facilities and environment of a local high school. It also gave Year 11 student leaders from both high schools the opportunity to assist with the facilitation and delivery of the day as a demonstration of their own leadership capabilities.

This is a great way to bring together the schools in your local area, and often works out to be more cost effective as well! If you are interested in exploring the idea of an Primary Power Day in your community, contact Laury Bray on (07) 3368 3444 or laury@ylead.com.au
